Merkley began playing publicly at the age of 14 and has since traveled to a dozen countries, over the course of four European and five American tours.

Drawing from influences such as Little Walter, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers, Merkley blends numerous incarnations of blues music as it has evolved through the decades. With the combination of resonator guitar, harmonica, and baritone vocals, he carves his style between the generations of Blues, Folk, and Rock.

In 2006, Merkley recorded an acoustic album with Steve Morgan, entitled 'Ordinary Days', as well as an album with The Crooners, called 'So Many Places'. He is currently working on a multi-media project called 'Small Change' and the conversion of a 38ft. school bus into an eco-minded tour bus, dubbed 'The After School Special'.
